n April 24th, 2019, Heng Duan House hosted the adulthood anniversary for senior three students in the auditorium of RCF Experimental School. Students from the class of 2019 joined the adult group on this occasion, which means that they have all become an independent person who makes decisions themselves and takes the responsibilities of their behaviour. The entire event is divided into three parts: reviewing the past memories, looking around at the present situation, and looking forward to the future.

A short video reviewing the big events of the school life and student activities of the past three years is shown first and helped us recall the unforgettable memories of our high school life. A brief performance of the adulthood anniversary in style of Chinese traditions came afterwards, explaining the relevance of this moment in ancient China: A symbol of young people becoming an individual in the society. The point of this is to show respect to our history and experience and to what we learned and gained from culture and time.

The “present” part was composed of several subsections. Firstly, speeches are given by school ministers, house leaders, and representatives of teachers, congratulating our growth, and express their expectations to our future development. Secondly, letters written by parents were received and read by students providing them with a chance to learn about and understand the thoughts and wishes of the people who are closest to them. Then a song PING FAN ZHI LU was sung by junior students, passing their wishes to senior students. Lastly, class teachers awarded people who had contributed to the house or had done things worth mentioning during their high school life.

The “prospect” part has to do with when the students show their future dreams and plans. They expressed these thoughts through “WANG CHUAN”, a song showing calmness and comfort to the uncertain destination of a journey that has just started. The students then stood up and pledged to the national flag, swearing to hold their present goods and behave better in the future.

They later walked through the “Adulthood gate”, received their commemorative pin, and become young adults.
