TIANMUN 2018 Reflections2018-12-20

MUN is a big bubble, it builds a connection between people’, as I saw the boy who also went to HSYLC this summer at TIANMUN, I was shocked and realized how small the world is. TIANMUN is a perfect conference for us, the timing was great, not to mention the distance between Beijing and Tianjin which makes the trip convenient and the boredom of traveling and tiredness is minimized. It was a great pleasure to be able to see the fascinating campus of TIS again in this green season after one year, this time I was more confident and well-prepared. It was my first time in the Disarmament and International Security Committee, Throughout the conference,

I made five speeches and four points of information, it was quite a breakthrough, compared to my previous performance. Participating in TIANMUN also let me get to know many other amazing people from different parts of China, some have great debating skills and some do not, but as we joined one committee and chose the same topic, we helped each other and learnt from each other. I would love to keep participating in the school’s MUN club actively and looking forward to the next conference!

It is my second time being a delegate of TIANMUN. This time I was not in the General Assembly, but was a member of the Arab League. MUN helps to cultivate my oral ability, so that I am capable when reading English. Debates at MUN help exercise my ability to adapt, exercise my speaking abilities and make it more fluent. The eloquence of people I interact with at the conferences makes me understand that everything has two sides. Through the study of MUN my life has become more colourful, I actually learn a lot from it. I have learned a lot of knowledge, and I feel that I have grown up a lot, but it has also helped me understand that I have to study hard and learn the basics in the classroom. Outside class, you must understand current political affairs and learn life skills. Only in this way can you learn better and go further. Model United Nations is really meaningful to me, and what I hope is more students should participate in this activity and get more benefits from it.

During this TIANMUN, I learned so many things and improved a lot on different aspects. For instance, I learned how formal the languages are during the conference and the format of the whole resolution. Plus, the resolution our group made must be relatively persuasive, that means the resolution must be as comprehensive as possible. It was also important to negotiate with other delegate during the conference because that would tell me what their topic was, it’s better for your amendment part. I thought I was not shy during the conference and tried to have POI or speeches during some discussions about resolutions. I thought next time I need to do these things better than this time and always be active to show your motivation. Plus, I didn’t be absent-minded during the conference and tried to learn some useful expressions that some native speakers offered.

The advisor of Ukraine would like to participate in the next MUN conference.  Well enough formality, I really enjoy this trip to Tianjin including the experience in the TIANMUN. In this conference I do learnt many things, such as what a POI is, how debate works, and many other specific phrases used in MUN. I was also elected as the best dressed advisor in the house, maybe that can be a part of participate, and I’m pretty sure that I am the only one with that color suit. I was a little be afraid at first in the debate as there aren’t many people in my room and the chair is always wanting to call someone up for a speech, however, that wasn’t so horrible when I experience it, so the conference is actually awesome. Yes, I also love the hotel and the fabulous photographer! Thank you sooo much!!!

First and foremost, I become far more familiar about the detailed procedure of the MUN session, including POI, making a speech and amendment. I actually began trying to participate in the MUN by making speeches and sending amendments. In addition, I too was the main-submitter of one resolution about 3D printed firearms, therefore it is my responsibility to defend my resolution and making it passed. Although I failed in the end, but I made a move this time. Last year I was very nervous and I was trying to avoid making any speeches or even talk to others as anxiety and lack of ability to debate. However, this year I found myself completely different-I began to discuss and cooperate with others, and I dared to question the opponents and making a speech in front of all of them, it is the courage that I’ve learnt this time and that was of significance.
